Weymouth Mobility Scooter users will soon be Smooth Operators

Weymouth Mobility Scooter users will soon be able to take a smoother ride into their local town centre. The current shared cycleway and footpath between Swannery Bridge and Chafey’s Roundabout is due to be improved by Dorset Highways from gravel to a paved path.
“Providing a paved surface will make it an easier journey for walkers and cyclists, and it will also ensure better access for residents who use mobility scooters.”Emma Baker, manager of the project told us.

“This section of cycleway is an important link in Weymouth and Portland’s cycling network; it will join up Chickerell , the Granby, Southill , Westham and Weymouth town centre.”

Mrs Baker concluded: “Due to the nature of the surfacing works we will have to close the route for about five days starting on Monday October 8.”

However, readers, do not panic! A temporary alternative route will be assigned, unfortunately it will be quite a long detour, via Goldcroft Road, Newstead Road, Abbotsbury Road and Westham subway.
